San Francisco Hilton 1971 postcard to Toledo Ohio

Pictorial postcard showing two views of the San Francisco Hilton.  Right image is an aerial view of the original Hilton building which opened on May 25, 1964.  An 18-story hotel with 1200 rooms and guests can drive their cars inside the building and park adjacent to their rooms on the 5th through 11th floors.  An outdoor pool in the courtyard can be seen on the 16th floor.  The left image is a street view of a new 46-story tower with a connecting bridge to the original tower.  The second tower was completed in 1971.

THE SAN FRANCISCO HILTON with 1200 guest rooms is the City's newest and largest hotel.  A headed swimming pool on the 16th floor terrace and drive-up parking (on 5th through 11th floors only) are San Francisco's "firsts". At Mason and O'Farrell Streets adjoining downtown Airline Terminal. (Hilton Tower addition to open early 1971 will make this the largest hotel west of Chicago.)

From 1985-1988, San Francisco Hilton added a new 26-story tower between the original building and the 46-story tower.  As part of the $150 million project, the original also went through extensive renovation.  Read more about the project by Cahill Contractors.

The 60th Hilton Hotel, now known as the Hilton San Francisco Union Square, with 1919 rooms, is still the largest hotel in California after it opened its doors for business in 1964.
